FBI Identifies Lazarus as Perpetrator Behind Stake.com Hack

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has identified the Lazarus cybercrime group as the perpetrators behind the assault on Stake.com earlier this week. Stake.com was forced to cease operations on September 4th after several of their digital wallets were plundered. The attack targeted Ethereum, Polygon, and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) on Stake.com. Stake.com declared that all their remaining wallets were secure and they resumed normal operations five hours after discovering the issue.

Initial reports suggested the company suffered a loss of $41.3 million. The FBI verified this figure and confirmed that Lazarus was responsible for the theft.

Lazarus, also recognized as APT38, has ties to North Korea.

The FBI revealed that the hackers transferred the stolen funds from Stake.com to numerous cryptocurrency addresses.

The FBI highlighted other attacks attributed to Lazarus. They stated that the group is behind a series of significant cryptocurrency robberies globally. They believe Lazarus has pilfered over $200 million this year.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is taking strong action against North Korea’s illicit activities. They are utilizing cybercrime and stealing digital currency to finance their government. The FBI encourages anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Stake.com is a significant player in the industry, boasting over half a million users globally, encompassing countries like Canada, Brazil, Japan, and the United Kingdom. They have been operational since 2017.
