Crown Sydney Opens Without Casino Amidst Scandal

The opulent Crown Resorts Sydney location has debuted, but there’s a snag: the casino, intended as its primary attraction, is absent.

You see, the upscale hotel obtained a permit for a high-roller casino from the New South Wales authorities back in 2013. However, the state’s gaming commission has been reluctant to grant them permission to operate it due to an ongoing probe into Crown’s activities.

This inquiry is examining serious accusations of illicit finance and dubious dealings with criminal syndicates. Oh my!

Currently, Crown Sydney’s taverns and eateries have been granted provisional alcohol permits, but they must reapply in the coming year.

Therefore, while the lavish hotel and dining choices are accessible to the public, the $2.2 billion establishment at Barangaroo remains in a state of uncertainty. The casino’s future hinges on the results of an inquiry, with a report anticipated in early 2021.

Further complicating matters for Crown, the New South Wales investigation has also prompted a premature evaluation of their gaming license in Victoria, initially slated for 2023. It seems Crown has much at stake depending on the inquiry’s outcome!

A committed specialist will lead an examination and deliver their results to the Victorian Administration the following year.
