Century Gaming Acquires Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nevada

Century Gaming Corporation recently acquired the Nugget Casino Resort from Marnell Gaming in a deal valued at $100 million.

A prominent landmark in Sparks, Nevada, the Nugget enjoys a strategic location near the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and the shores of Lake Tahoe. The property features two impressive hotel towers, an expansive event center, ample parking facilities, and a diverse selection of dining establishments. Gaming enthusiasts will discover close to 900 slot machines and approximately 30 table games within the casino.

“This strategic acquisition presents an exceptional opportunity to bolster our presence in the Nevada market,” remarked Century Casinos co-CEOs Erwin Haitzmann and Peter Hoetzinger. “We are eager to revitalize the Nugget, introducing enhancements to its overall aesthetic, brand identity, slot machine offerings, and dining experiences. We are committed to collaborating with the existing team and the Sparks community to ensure the continued prosperity of this property.”

This recent acquisition expands Century Casinos’ portfolio to encompass a total of 18 casino properties across the United States, Canada, and Poland.

It is noteworthy that the underlying land upon which the Nugget is situated is owned by an entity known as Smooth Bourbon, with Century Casinos obligated to remit an annual rent of $15 million.

Century Gaming is pursuing an acquisition of Smooth Bourbon, intending to incorporate it as a subsidiary within its portfolio. This strategic maneuver follows closely on the heels of Century Gaming receiving regulatory approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission in the previous month to assume control of the Golden Nugget casino and resort property, signifying their emergence as the new proprietors.
