Australia Cracks Down on Illegal Online Gambling Sites

Australias media regulator is taking action against unlawful international gaming platforms. Recently, they’ve flagged an additional 15 websites in violation of Australian regulations, increasing the total number to over 600 since 2019. These platforms, bearing titles like “Spin Oasis” and “Ozbet88”, frequently attempt to appear credible but lack any safeguards for users. The governmental body is collaborating with internet service providers to restrict access to these sites within Australia and is advising its residents to steer clear. They caution that Australians opting to engage with these illicit services face the potential loss of their funds.

The Land Down Under is preparing to introduce BetStop, a national self-exclusion registry for internet wagering. This significant development will allow individuals battling gambling dependency to add their names to a roster that restricts access to all betting platforms and applications. ACMA, the governing body overseeing the initiative, indicates an imminent launch.

Considerable discussion surrounding online gambling has taken place in Australia recently, particularly following the conclusion of a governmental inquiry into its societal effects.
